Rogers' 10* Sunday Night SHOWDOWN >> 3-0 SWEEP Last Week!
(NFL) Philadelphia vs. Dallas, 10/30/2016 4:30 PM, Score: 23 - 29
Point Spread: -4.50 | -120.00 Dallas (Home)
Result: Win
The set-up: The Eagles and Cowboys are two of the NFL's most bitter rivals but at the opening of the 2016 season, few, if any, would have predicted that the teams' Week 8 matchup would feature the 4-2 Eagles at the 5-1 Cowboys. After all, the Eagles had fired Chip Kelly before the end of his third season at Philly, had traded QB Sam Bradford during the preseaon and would be turning to a rookie QB from North Dakota St (Carson Wentz) to open the season. As for the Cowboys, they opened the year having had just one winning season over the previous six, Tony Romo was injured again and Dallas was turning to a rookie QB who wasn't picked until the 4th round, making him the 135th pick of the 2016 NFL draft. However, the Eagles and Cowboys will take the field Sunday night in Arlington with first place in the NFC East on the line.

Philadelphia: Wentz led the Eagles to three straight wins, tossing five TD passes without an interception but has cooled off considerably since that time, tossing just three TD passes with a an equal amount of INTs, while passing for a modest 555 yards (185 per). The eagles rank 29th in passing yards (210.7 YPG) and it's been the defense which has been the team's strength. Philly is allowing 307.0 YPG (5th) and 14.7 PPG (3rd), having allowed Philadelphia four of six opponents to 14 points or less. Philadelphia's defense has created 12 turnovers for a plus-6 turnover differential.

Dallas: The unheralded Prescott (68.7% with 7 TDs and one INT over 182 attempts, earning a QB rating of 103.9) leads an offense which ranks third in yards gained (401.5 per), significantly aided by fellow rookie Ezekiel Elliott. The rookie RB from Ohio State lead the NFL with 703 yards (5.1), taking a streak of four consecutive 100-yard efforts (142.3 per on 5.9 YPC) into this contest. His play is why Dallas in the top rushing team in the NFL at 161.2 YPG (50 YPG more than Philly's running game). The Dallas D has also done its job, allowing 17.8 PPG to rank 7th in the NFL. When talking about Dallas' success in 2016, let's not forget to mention oft-maligned head coach Jason Garrett. He has his team playing at an elite level, all without Romo (six games missed), RB Darren McFadden (six), WR Dez Bryant (three), guard La'el Collins (one), LB Rolando McClain (six) and cornerback Orlando Scandrick (four).

The pick: Dez Bryant is poised to suit up Sunday (can't hurt) plus the Cowboys are coming off a bye, while the Eagles just handed Minnesota its first loss of the 2016 season last Sunday, besting former QB Sam Bradford in what must have been an emotional win. Dallas has had all sorts of issues at home in recent years, especially as a home favorite, covering just 12 of its last 15 in the role. However, after losing 20-19 in Week 1 at home to the Giants, these 2016 Cowboys have gone 5-0 SU & ATS, including hone wins over the Bears (31-17) and Bengals (28-14). Prescott and Elliott are the team's "new-breed" on offense and the defense has held four straight opponents to 17 points or less. Dallas is a 10* play.
