The veteran comes into the second half with considerable momentum, he closed the first by allowing a total of 11 earned runs over 49 2/3's innings over his last seven starts and he has to be feeling pretty confident in this spot as he's 5-1 with a very respectable 2.70 ERA away from friendly confines so far this season. The home side counters with Yordano Ventura (4-6, 4.73 ERA) who picked up a win in his first start in over a month on Thursday, going five innings, allowing three runs off four hits, while walking three over the Rays on Thursday; it's significant to note though that Ventura is just 3-3 with a pedestrian 4.88 ERA at home this year. We believe that this matchup clearly favors Burnett, "recent performance" is an important factor to take into consideration when handicapping starting pitching and there's no doubt that the Pirates' hurler has the advantage in that department today.
