The clear talent discrepancy on the mound absolutely justifies in laying the price in this matchup. The home side sends the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner to the hill in Max Scherzer (13-4, 3.13 ERA); Scherzer is 5-1 with a tiny 2.01 ERA over his last nine starts, most recently giving up one run over eight frames while striking out 11 in his team's eventual 3-2, 10-inning setback in Toronto on Saturday. The visitors counter with Francisco Liriano (3-8, 3.83 ERA) who is 0-1 with a deplorable 10.38 ERA over two interleague contests this year; note that Liriano suffered his lone interleague loss last year in Detroit on May 27th, getting shelled for four runs over five frames in his team's 6-5 defeat. Liriano has been decent of late, but I think runs into a buzzsaw of a motivated offense which would explode for an 8-4 win yesterday. Scherzer gets the nod on the bump and that's more than enough to tip the scales in our favor in my opinion, play on DETROIT.
