This is a 7* ART OF THE GAME on the San Diego Padres.
A couple of rookie hurlers go head to head in this one, neither has been that impressive of late, but I'm going to give the slight nod to Odrisamer Despaigne and the home side, and that'll be more than enough to tip the scales in our favor in this one. The Friars won 4-3 in last night's series opener and I think they build off that performance. SD is hitting .278 while winning nine of its last 12 overall. Despaigne (2-3, 3.10 ERA) hasn't won since his first two career starts, going 0-3 with a 4.04 ERA over six outings since, but a game vs. the last place Rockies is just what the doctor ordered for the Cuban to get untracked. Colorado is tied with the Rangers for the worst record in the league and has dropped 12 of its last 15, posting a .238 batting average and scoring 3.9 runs per game in the process. The Rockies turn to Yohan Flande (0-4, 5.77 ERA) who has been having issues with command, allowing the opposition to hit .291 through six starts, most recently he was shelled for four runs in a 6-2 setback to the Cubs on Thursday. Despaigne has a golden opportunity, I think he outduels his struggling counterpart and that the sharp wager in this matchup is definitely on SAN DIEGO.
