I think the home side is worth the price of admission in this matchup. The visiting Colorado Rockies will start Jordan Lyles (6-1, 3.72 ERA), who gave up four earned runs in six innings but got the win Wednesday night against the Cubs. Note though that Lyles is just 1-3 with a pedestrian 6.93 ERA in five games started against the Padres life time. Jesse Hahn (7-3, 2.28 ERA) will get the ball for the Padres; Hahn is coming off the first poor outing of his career, allowing three runs in 5 2/3 innings in a loss at Minnesota last Tuesday. However, the rookie right-hander has been outstanding in just about every other start this season and will face the Rockies for the first time. And facing Colorado, which has struggled all season long away from friendly confines and which is just 5-13 as a road underdog in the +125 to +150 range this season, is just what the doctor ordered to get untracked. In fact, the Rockies, who are tied with Texas for the worst record in baseball, are an MLB-worst 18-41 on the road and haven't won consecutive road games since a three-game sweep of San Francisco from June 13-15. San Diego meanwhile is playing some good ball after taking two of three from the Pirates. Furthermore, San Diego is 32-27 in home games this season. All signs point to an easy win for the home side.
