This is an 8* SLUG-FEST on the OVER between the Baltimore Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays.
We think this one sets up great for a higher-scoring affair. First off, both of these starters are coming off atrocious outings. Secondly, the Orioles are tearing the cover off the ball right now. And lastly, the desperate Jays have started the season 1-7, the worst ever opening stretch in franchise history. Something has to give and in our opinion, all signs point to a classic "slug-fest" this evening.
Kevin Gausman: He beat the Jays 3-2 in his season opener (Baltimore swept the two game set). He took a major step back in his second outing though, allowing four runs off eight hits and three walks over 4.2 innings in a loss to the Yankees. Note that he was just 3-10 with a 4.32 ERA on the road last year.
Francisco Liriano: He started the year on the DL and then made his first start on April 7th. The veteran didn't even make it out of a single inning though, giving up five runs in a loss to Tampa Bay.
The bottom line: A couple of suspect starters. A powerful lineup coming in off a 13-5 win in Boston just last night and a team that's clearly been under-performing at the plate to open the season. All of these factors collide, making the OVER the savvy move in this contest.
