This is a 10* NON-CONF TOTAL OF THE MONTH on the UNDER between the LA Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets.
REASONING: The Lakers and Nets both have top 15 offenses. Brooklyn owns the worst defense in the league and LA isn't too far behind in being ranked 27th in points allowed. On paper, clearly this one game would appear to have little defense played and an opportunity for these teams to put some points on the board. In fact, when they first met back on November 15th, the Lakers scored the 125-118 high-scoring home victory. However, we think the pendulum has finally swung the other way and that the value in this one is on the lower-number. These two major market teams are under the gun to produce after extended slumps, as LA has dropped seven straight, while Brooklyn has lost 12 of its last 14. Both teams are getting healthier though, as the Lakers have welcomed back Young and Russell, while the Nets got back Jeremy Lin. We think we're going to see a more tightly contested affair tonight. And note that LA has seen the total go UNDER the number in 11 of 20 as an underdog this year and in six of its last eight as a road dog of three points or less, while Brooklyn has seen the total go UNDER the number in ten of its last 16 after scoring 105 points or more.
