This is a 10* GAME OF THE MONTH on Southern Utah.
I think Southern Utah can comfortably sneak in through the backdoor down the stretch.
Southern Utah went 1-5 in last year's Covid season, while San Jose State went 7-1.
The Thunderbirds averaged 26.5 PPG, while allowing 27.3. Justin Miller is back under center, and that's significant in my opinion.
Last year he had 1,700 yards passing and 15 TD's. Both the defense and offense return most of the starters from last season, meaning we should see improvement across the board here.
The Spartans averaged 28.6 PPG, while allowing 19.9. Nick Starkel is back under center, he had 2,100 yards and 17 TD's last year.
San Jose did lose its top two receivers though. And it has two much more high-profile road games upcoming right away, at USC and at Hawaii, meaning that this sets up as a "LOOK-AHEAD" for the home side as well.
I'm of course not calling for an outright upset, but everything points to this one being a lot more competitive than what this spread would suggest.
