This is an important American League series for both playoff hopefuls and while each has struggled with offensive consistency at times this year, I think the opener of this series sets up as a bit of a SLUG-FEST.
The Yanks turn to Jameson Taillon, who is 8-4 with a 3.94 ERA and who gave up three runs off five hits while striking out five over 5.1 innings in a win over the Twins on Thursday.
The A's go with James Kaprielian. He's 7-4 with a 3.25 ERA. He gave up one run over five innings in a win over the Giants on Friday.
This pick is not based upon either starter. I don't trust either bullpen though.
The trends/stats/numbers also point to a higher-scoring affair, as the Yanks have seen the total go OVER the number in seven of their last ten when a road favorite in the -110 to -125 range, while the A's have conversely seen the total go OVER the number in eight of their last 12 as a home underdog in the +105 to +135 range.
Look for this one to fly OVER as it comes down the stretch.
